Asante Kotoko's ultimatum branded bogus by Hearts spokesman

Hearts of Oak’s spokesman Kwame Opare Addo has described Asante Kotoko’s ultimatum to the Ghana FA to hear its appeal over their lost Premier League points as ‘bogus’ and unfounded.

The dethroned Ghana Premier League champions in a statement to the GFA over the weekend demanded the hearing of its appeal over a Disciplinary Committee ruling to dock them six points by Wednesday before the final round of Premier League matches are honoured on Sunday.

Kotoko officials are still fuming over the decision by the Disciplinary Committee that ruled that player Obed Owusu was indeed unqualified to have played in a Premier League match against Hearts of Oak.

Kotoko were thus declared losers of the Week 25 fixture which they originally won 2-1 and were further docked three points from their accumulated tally.

The club’s board after holding an emergency meeting on Saturday, charged the GFA to hear its appeal on Wednesday (today) before the final round of matches in the Ghanaian top flight are cleared.

But Hearts of Oak spokesman Kwame Opare Addo insists Kotoko’s request is baseless as due procedure towards hearing the appeal is yet to be exhausted.

“When I heard and read that Kotoko have handed an ultimatum to the GFA I just laughed. It is a bogus ultimatum,” he told Asempa FM.

“First of all, Hearts need to be officially notified of the appeal and seek its response within three working days. This was served on Hearts last Friday.

“Thereafter, Kotoko will also file a counter response which also takes three working days before the appeal is heard.

“These procedures have not been exhausted and now some people are handing out ultimatums?

“This shows you clearly that Kotoko do not understand the laws. They may have all the lawyers but I say that they are all illiterates when it comes to laws governing football and must go back to the classroom.

"It shows you clearly that this ultimatum is completely bogus."
