Napoli goalscorer Gonzalo Higuain has revealed that an injury forced him prematurely off the pitch during their 5-1 victory over Empoli in Serie A.

The Partenopei reclaimed top spot after thrashing Maurizio Sarri’s former side, although the Argentina international has urged his teammates to remain calm as they aim to secure the sought-after Scudetto.

“I am not feeling too good,” said Higuain to Mediaset Premium. “I took a blow to the shoulders and I finished the match in a bit of pain.

“We must keep moving forwards taking it game by game, just like we have been doing. We are a united group and we hope to continue like this.

“We need to remain calm but we also need to work. Only like this will we win.”

Lastly, the 28-year-old also praised the unique Azzurri fans after the victory, referring to their song ‘Un giorno all’improvviso’, of which he often sings with the fans after a match.

“It is a stupendous song,” he added. “There is a special feeling with the fans and obviously I also defend the city.”
