James Weir has made just seven appearances for Hull since joining in September 2016

Hull City midfielder James Weir is likely to miss the rest of season after having surgery on a knee injury.

Weir, 22, suffered the injury while playing for the Tigers' Under-23s, having made four appearances for the first team in August and September.

"It is not a nice situation for James or for us and he has had an operation," said head coach Leonid Slutsky told the club website.

"He will probably miss six months now and we are very sorry for him."

Weir joined Hull on a three-year contract in September 2016 after making just one appearance for previous club Manchester United.
