'I can coach Hearts' - Henry Willington tells management

Hearts of Oak could end their search for a substantive coach for the club following a declaration by Henry Willington that he is ready for the job.

Willington who was appointed the assistant coach of the club about a month ago qualified the team to the finals of the FAB G6 Tournament after beating sworn-rivals Asante Kotoko in the semifinal of the competition through the lottery of penalty kicks.

And the former Heart of Lions trainer has confidently declared that he is ready to take up the role of the head coach.

"I can do it. Why not? But now, let me do my job as an assistant coach. That is the job I was handed so let me handle that for now. If it becomes necessary for me to lead the club, I am ever ready," he told Happy FM.

The Phobians have been without a substantive head coach for the past five months following the exit of Japanese trainer Kenichi Yatsuhashi.

The club then handed the role to Portuguese trainer Sergio Traguil and Yaw Preko but the former was demoted to the junior side of the club after three matches while the latter is currently in Nigeria as the assistant coach of Ifenyi Ubah.

Reports are that about 30 coaches, both local and foreign, have applied for the coaching job of the Rainbow Boys but Willington's declaration may lesson the managemen's task of looking for a substantive coach.
