The President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has expressed shock that nobody contested him for the FA job, describing the calls from certain quarters for him to be contested as “ugly noisesâ€.
The 48-year-old lawyer was re-elected by popular acclamation on Tuesday at a GFA Extraordinary Congress in Tamale for a third term unopposed, following the failure of his other contestants, Ofeibia Ramatu and George Ankomah, to submit their nominations before the Electoral deadline.
The election was also threatened by an injunction by John Quayson who argued on the grounds that the hierarchy of the Ghana Football Association has shown disregard for its rules by failing to hold district and regional elections before its presidential elections.
But the WA All Stars president described the confusion that attempted to mar the congress and calls for him to be contested as “ugly noisesâ€.
“I am very surprised that nobody contested me, I mean I don’t know if all the ugly noises that people made were made for the sake of making noise." told tv3
“So yes I am surprised that nobody was able to file his or her nomination to contest me…so what was all the noise and barking for, it surprises me a lotâ€.
The CAF executive committee member also dismissed claims that the Ghana Premier League has deteriorated during his reign.
