In-coming Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah set to wield axe as under-performing stars fear chop

In-coming Ghana coach is expected to wield the axe with several under-performing players facing uncertain international futures.

Players who have been below-par are likely to be jettisoned from the team as he plans to overhaul the current squad.

Appiah has agreed a two-year deal with the Ghana FA to replace Israeli Avram Grant.

The return of Appiah has sparked anxiety for several under-performing players as their days with the national team could well be over.

The former Khartoum SC trainer is aware of the enormity of the task and has vowed to ensure those who wear the national jersey are worthy.

The situation means several fringe players and those who have failed to impress over the years could be chopped off.

The 56-year-old has told close associates that he will not treat players with kid gloves.

While no names have been speculated, the situation presents every player with an equal chance to gatecrash the squad.

Appiah's first game for the Black Stars will be a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia at home in June.
