Jerry Akaminko struggling to make full recovery from injury

Defender Jerry Akaminko is still struggling to make a full recovery from an ankle injury which kept him out of Ghana’s squad for the 2014 World Cup six months ago.

The 26-year-old is still locked up in rehabilitation, gym and ball work and is yet to make a return to competitive action for his Turkish club Eskisehirspor.

Akaminko was initially told he will be out for three months after successful surgery on an ankle injury he picked up in the last minute of Ghana’s opening pre-World Cup friendly match against the Netherlands back in June.

He was operated on days later after suffering the heartbreaking injury in the United States where Ghana finalized its preparations ahead of the tournament staged in Brazil.

The former Heart of Lions defender was expected to be back fit to help the Black Stars during their qualifying campaign for the 2015 AFCON following a disappointing turn out at the World Cup.

But yet still he was unable to make a full recovery from the injury and played no part in Ghana’s qualification for Equatorial Guinea.

He is again highly unlikely to be part of the squad that is being assembled by Avram Grant for the finals proper in January.

Akaminko is suspected to have suffered some complications and setbacks on his trail to full recovery.

Sources at his club have remained tight-lipped on the return date of the Ghana defender after missing some schedules in his recovery.

Akaminko has been flown to London and other cities in Europe to see specialists to assess the injury situation at intervals.

He has also been spotted a couple of times in Ghana.

It is however clear that Ghana will be without the tough defender for next year’s African Cup tournament in Equatorial Guinea.
