Inkoom helps Dnipro to return to winning ways, saves coach's job

Ghana defender Samuel Inkoom returned to Dnipro's starting line-up on Thursday and helped them to return to winning ways after defeating Fulham 1-0.

The results means his Ukrainian club have been eliminated from the Europa League having lost the first leg 3-0 without the Ghanaian right-back.

Despite their elimination, Inkoom’s inclusion in the team's starting line-up for the first time this season helped to rescue coach Juande Ramos' job.

The Spanish manager would have been sacked by the club as they have struggled so far this season with some unimpressive results despite big purchases in the off-season.

Ramos axed Inkoom after the defender opted to help Ghana U23 side to qualify for the All African Games.

Inkoom paid the high price for his commitment to his country as he was made to warm the bench for Dnipro despite him being the first choice player in his position.

But after suffering the consequences of leaving the player out of the starting line-up by getting bad results, Ramos put his ego aside to play Inkoom.

The defender repaid the faith by playing an excellent game as they held on for the win that saved Ramos's career with the rich club.

Inkoom's compatriot, Derek Boateng was also masterful and was made to play the entire duration of the game for Dnipro.

With this performance, Inkoom is likely to keep his position in the team while teams said to be keen on his signature can also expect to swoop for him before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month.
