Inkoom hunts third gold medal

Ghana's budding defender Samuel Inkoom hopes to earn his third gold medal in a year by winning the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola on Sunday against holders Egypt.

The FC Basel right-back won gold medals at both the Africa and World Youth Championships in Rwanda and Egypt respectively last year.

The 19-year-old was also a member of the silver medal winning local Black Stars side at the inaugural Caf CHAN tournament in Ivory Coast.

"I'm excited and do not know what to say for now. I played in three finals last year and won two and it will be a nice thing to begin the year with this Nations Cup," Inkoom said in a post match interview.

"I can say this team is united and we are now ready for title. We need to keep our focus and finish hard. People didn't expect us to get to this stage but for me I think we can achieve the ultimate."

Inkoom has impressed in the right-back role of the team deputizing for the injured Fulham defender John Paintsil.

Also gunning for a third gold medal is new "Michael Essien", Emmanuel Agyeman-Badu and back-up goalkeeper Daniel Agyei.
