Executive Chairman of Dreams FC and a member of the GFA, Kurt Okraku, believes that innovative thinking from the people in charge of football in Ghana is what will take the local game forward.

Observers including former FA vice-president, Fred Pappoe, have said that Ghanaian football is on the decline and only new ideas will bring progress.

On November 23, Pappoe said, in an interview with Accra-based Happy FM, that there was the need for “a second look” at how football was run in the country and it was important for efforts to be made in a concerted manner to lift the game.

Okraku, who is the chairman of the MTN FA Cup Committee, told Citi Sports in an exclusive interview on Thursday at the offices of Dreams FC that newer approaches and methods were important for the progress of Ghanaian football.

“What is important is that, as an FA, we need to see it clearly that people are accustomed to how we do our things.

For us to attract new followers and people are who are not lovers of our game, it will be important for us to start to think outside the box.”

He further added: “Whether one serves on the Division One League Board, the MTN FA Cup Committee or the Premier League Board, thinking outside the box should be vital because that is the only way we can arouse interest in the local game.

The industry needs new energy. Football is an emotive sport and so, we need to deploy strategies that will raise the adrenaline levels of not only the footballers and administrators but the spectators and the only way to do it is to think outside the box.”

In the last few weeks, the Ghana Football Association has stated its intentions to rebrand itself and the Ghana Premier League in order to attract sponsors to support and uplift the league.
