Inter v Bologna – Preview: Nerazzurri seek victory over Rossoblu in the race for third

Published on: 11 March 2016

In an effort to re-ignite their campaign for Champions League qualification, Inter will be searching for their first back-to-back victory since December when they host Bologna on Saturday evening.

After picking up just two wins in their last nine league fixtures, the Nerazzurri re-found some form in the 3-1 win over Palermo last Sunday.

Three points in Saturday’s round 29 fixture would see Roberto Mancini’s men see out the night in fourth position, just two points behind Serie A’s current third placed club, Roma.

Looking to make the task as challenging as possible are Bologna who, despite remaining unbeaten in their last five fixtures, have struggled to claim maximum points in recent weeks.

The Rossoblu boast just the one victory in their last six games, having failed to capitalise on matches against three of the bottom four, Palermo, Frosinone and Carpi.

Of particular concern has been their inability to find the back of the net, scoring just two goals in their last six matches. Though Roberto Donadoni’s men will take confidence in a defence which over the same period has conceded just two goals.

Given Inter has scored three goals in four of their last six games, Mancini will back his firepower to break down the Rossoblu defence, ensuring if the visitors want to leave with a result, they would need to score, something they have not achieved in over 280 minutes of football.

The Rossoblu have beaten the Biscione just twice in their last 22 meetings which included a memorable 2012 victory at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, embarrassing their heavyweight opponents 3-0 with the help of a Marco Di Vaio double.

Stevan Jovetic remains unavailable as the only major omission for the Nerazzurri, with Mancini set to field a full strength team on Saturday night.

Donadoni will also have a complete squad at his disposal as he sets off in search of an upset in Milan.
