As the 2014/2015 CAF Â Champions League rolled out over the weekend, Ghanaian defender Yaw Frimpong fervently talked about the chances of his Congolese side TP Mazembe in the competition and relishes a possible clash with Ghanaian title-holders Asante Kotoko.
The 27-year-old full-back is playing his second season with the Ravens at the Stade de TP Mazembe and he is eager to crown his stint at Lubumbashi with a trophy after narrowly missing out on the Confederations Cup title in November when he and his three other Ghanaian compatriots lost to Tunisian side CS Sfaxien.
"My ambition is to help Mazembe win the CAF Champions League this year then afterwards we see what happens.
It was painful for Mazembe to crash out of the Champions League last season and lose in the final of the Confederations Cup but this year with all on our side we are confident of entering the money zone."
"These guys were very good players and they helped the club for many years but now they are not here anymore and we have replacements for them so I'm we will cope well."
Frimpong's last action against a Ghanaian side came in the 2013 Ghanaian President Cup in Accra but he could be making a return to face his old club - Asante Kotoko in the champions league.
And, he is already looking forward to a possible clash with the Ghanaian champions, a club he spent three seasons with.
"I've also heard we could meet so I'm praying we both sail through from the Money Zone stage and meet in the final."
As June draws closer, most players are angling for call-ups into James Kwesi Appiah's Black Stars squad but Frimpong insists his main focus remains on continental success with the DRC giants.
"I've to help Mazembe first and we see what God will do."
