Is Pogba poised to become one of the biggest stars in world football?

Published on: 12 February 2016

Paul Pogba has quickly become one of the most sought after assets in world football and has been key to the success that Juventus enjoyed last season. He is also one of the reasons why Juve are flying high in the league again this year and, at only 22 years old, the biggest clubs in the world are rushing for his signature. His stock could be about to rise even further, as the French national team head into Euro 2016 as one of the favourites to lift the trophy.

The France international is currently under contract at the Turin club until 2019, and is on wages of around £70,000 a week. Although he is such an integral member of the team, The Old Lady may have to consider selling him when clubs come in with what are expected to be huge offers in the summer. Manchester United will be kicking themselves for letting him go on a free a few years ago and were reportedly quoted a £60million fee to bring him back to Old Trafford in 2014. Surely that evaluation has risen now, with a number of the world’s elite clubs showing interest in the player. He could use the grand stage of the Euros to boost his profile even further and it may cause a bidding war between the richest clubs.

At the time of writing, France are among the favourites in the international football betting to win Euro 2016. They go into the tournament as the host nation, which gives them a slight advantage, and the squad at their disposal is looking seriously strong as well. Pogba should walk right into the first team after playing such a crucial role in the World Cup, and could form part of a solid midfield alongside other in-form countryman, Yohan Cabaye. They have plenty of options at their disposal in attack as well, with one of the stand-out players in the Premier League this season, Dimitri Payet, looking certain to get a call-up.

There is set to be a lot of movement in the summer among managers, all of whom will want to make an instant impact at their new clubs. One way to do this would be to bring in a marquee signing who will greatly improve the team. Pogba has been earmarked by many as the player who could do this. When Manchester City announced that Pep Guardiola was set to succeed Manuel Pellegrini, they also said that the Spaniard would have around £150million to play with. This could easily allow him to sign one or two big names, but would Pogba be one of them when reports suggest that Sergio Busquets may be interested in a move?

According to the Bleacher report, Antonio Conte is the next in line to manage Chelsea, and if he lands the job, Pogba is said to be at the top of his wish list. But Chelsea will surely face fierce competition from the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid, among others.

The Euros are set to showcase this enormously talented midfielder to the world once again, and then, surely, the battle to sign him will commence.
