Istanbul FC progressed into the Ghana MTN FA Cup round of 16 with a hard fought 5-4 penalty shootouts win over third-tier Future Stars in Kumasi on Wednesday.

Istanbul pulled the equalizer on the 93rd minute mark through Thomas Avergbedor to send the game into the lottery of penalty after regulation time ended 1-1 at the Baba Yara stadium

The Akyem Techiman-based side have been impressive in Ghana’s National Division One League where they currently lie second behind Great Olympics.

Coach Jonas Amissah was left relieved after he saw his side score all the five penalty kicks as against four by his  opponent which sends his team into the round of 16.

They are determined to emulate the feat chalked by Nania FC in 2012.
