Ex-Ghana international Joe Addo says it will be a massive ‘heartbreak’ if the Black Stars fail to make a third successive appearance at the World Cup.

Ghana trainer Kwesi Appiah has announced a 24-man squad for the crunch qualifier against Sudan on March 24.

FIFA’s decision to award Zambia three points from the boardroom has left the Ghanaians struggling to make it to the party in Brazil.

The Black Stars must negotiate their next four games to ensure they secure a passage to the final qualifying stage, making the scenario increasingly difficult.

The former Hearts of Oak defender, who earned over 50 caps for the West African powerhouse believes failure to make a third successive World Cup appearance will be disastrous.

“The players have to go there and represent the country and represent us well,” Addo told Radio XYZ

“I played for the national team without any reward. I played for the pride, for my parents, for the flag and for the people.

“It will therefore a big heartbreak if we fail to qualify. We cannot afford to miss out and we must do everything possible to make it happen.”

The Black Stars have played in the last two editions of the World Cup in 2006 and 2010, placing enormous pressure on the players to make it triple.
