Roma have made an offer to sign Ghanian international left-back Abdulm Rahman Baba from Bundesliga outfit Augsburg.

The 20-year-old has been identified as an ideal fit because defensive and attacking abilities; the defender had the highest tackle rate per match of any player in the Bundesliga (4.8) while also providing four assists.

Calcionews24.com report that Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini have offered Augsburg around €10.8 million, but could yet face competition from DFB-Pokal winners Wolfsburg for Baba’s signature.

The youngster moved to Europe three years ago from his native Ghana with interest from England and Parma before choosing to move to second-tier German club Greuther Furth.

After two seasons with the Bavarians, Baba moved to Augsburg for €2.5m last summer and went on to make 31 appearances as Fuggerstadter claimed a best ever Bundesliga finish of fifth and a first foray into European football in next season’s Europa League.

Eleven-time capped Baba could take the place of Ashley Cole in the Roma squad, as the former England international is expected to leave the Stadio Olimpico this summer with America’s MLS a possible destination.
