Roma striker Gervinho has denied claims that his proposed transfer to Abu Dhabi outfit Al Jazira has fallen through due to his excessive contract demands.

Reports in Italy have suggested that on top of a basic €4.5 million a season wage, the Ivory Coast international had wanted a helicopter, private beach, houses and jobs for his close friends and family.

“I have no idea where these stories about me have come from,” the former Arsenal winger told France Football. “All of this is not true. I’ve made no such requests.

“When I sign for a team it’s not for any material reasons.”

A statement on the official Al Jazira website backed up Gervinho’s comments, saying that the deal had been cancelled for ‘technical’ reasons and nothing else.
