Ivorian star Didier Drogba has launched a scathing attack on Jordan Ayew, claiming the Ghana striker has failed woefully to live up to the iconic no.11 shirt at Olympique Marseille.

The former Chelsea star managed to make the no.11 jersey at Mariseille iconic despite playing for the French giants for just one season.

Drogba scored 19 goals in Ligue 1, five in the Champions League and six in the now Europa League in the 2003/04 season to ultimately become a cult figure at the Stade Velodrome.

The club have struggled to find a suitable replacement since the Ivory Coast star’s departure to Chelsea in 2004.

Senegalese striker Mahamadou Niang, rising Ghana star Jordan Ayew and Loic Remy have all attempted to fill the huge void left by Drogba.

The Galatasary hitman now looks back to call all his successors but for Niang spectacular failures in living up to the iconic no.11 jersey at Marseille.

“Loic Remy and Jordan Ayew, who successively inherited the famous Marseille number 11 jersey flopped,” Drogba told French online newspaper Sports.fr.

“It was only Mamadou Niang who brought dignity to the number 11 jersey after I left.”

Jordan struggled to get regular first team action during his time at Marseille.

He has since January been on loan at relegation threatened Sochaux.
