Asante Kotoko’s Public Relations Officer Ali Maradona is stoking controversy by suggesting the jailed Kwaku Frimpong - who stole iron rods from the club’s training grounds - is a fan of rivals Hearts of Oak.

Frimpong has been handed a six-month jail term after pleading guilty to the Ejisu Magistrate Court for stealing the iron rods from Kotoko’s Adarko Jachie training facility in Kumasi.

The iron rods are part of building materials meant to construct facilities to improve the training centre of the champions.

Many instinctively believe Frimpong – a resident of Kumasi – is a die-hard Kotoko fan.

But the club’s PRO Ali Maradona in a statement that will definitely elicit sharp response believes the jailed individual is from the camp of rivals Hearts of Oak since they own the trait of theft.

"I don't think a real fan of Kotoko will do anything to hinder the progress of the club," he told Asempa FM. "But then this chap was able to go and steal the iron rods. "This definitely cannot be the doing of a Kotoko fan. If I assess the chap very well, he will be a fan of Hearts of Oak. "They [Hearts fans] have such traits and therefore I think he is from Hearts."

The comments made by the Kotoko official is expected to draw sharp responses from the Phobian camp as it is deemed indicting to the respectful following of the club.
