Andre Ayew

After scoring on his debut in an excellent draw at Stamford Bridge, Swansea fans will be delighted with Andre Ayew. He already looks like he has been at the club forever.

His dad, Abedi Pele, was one of the greatest African footballers of all time, so he has top-class pedigree, and his brother Jordan is also a Premier League player at Aston Villa. But Andre looks like the one to watch.

On Saturday at Chelsea he was instantly comfortable with the pace of the game, his work rate was superb and he showed some good skill. The little drag-back for his goal was class.

In a crowded penalty area he had the composure to roll it away from John Terry and give himself room to score.

To do that in your first game is impressive but to do it at the home of the champions is even better. And with Jefferson Montero giving Branislav Ivanovic a torrid time at right back, Swansea deserved their point. It was a fine performance from Garry Monk’s men.

Last season Chelsea came out all guns blazing. Their new signings were magnificent, the fans were buzzing and they won seven of their first eight league matches.

This time round something’s not quite right. Jose Mourinho is moaning at his medics, Oscar didn’t celebrate his goal and they lacked pace at the back. Of course it’s still only week one, but they seemed out of sorts in pre-season, too.

With Manchester City up next, if they leave space behind the defence then Sergio Aguero will tear them apart. That’s why I suspect Jose will play Kurt Zouma, either at centre back or in defensive midfield, because they need his speed.

If City win on Monday night and next week, Mourinho’s men will be five points behind but Jose is a front-runner. He won’t want to be playing catch-up.
