John Boye could start against Guinea

Ghana assistant coach Kwesi Appiah believes John Boye could retain his place in the starting line-up despite the return of first choice central defenders Isaac Vorsah and John Mensah.

Ghana play Guinea in Wednesday’s top-of-the-table Group D clash.

Boye, playing in his first Africa Nations Cup finals, has impressed and was chosen as man-of-the-match in the opening 1-0 win over Botswana.

Vorsah was handed a two-match suspension after receiving a red card during the final qualifier against Mali last year and has not played yet in this event.

Captain Mensah, if he recovers from a thigh injury, should be available for selection after serving his one-match ban.

The duo were regulars during the qualifying campaign, but Boye has been a revelation at the 2012 finals.

Appiah says the technical team is not in conundrum as to who makes the starting set-up for the crucial group match against Guinea.

"I believe that we shouldn't be looking at who plays. The important thing is getting the best team on the field to play for us. No coach will change a winning side or someone who is doing well," the ex-Black Stars captain said.

"We have had discussions on this. The most important thing is having a quality team. All your 23 players should be of good quality.

"As to who starts and who comes on is immaterial. I believe that the way John (Boye) is playing everyone is very satisfied and we will continue with the training and see who will make the final XI."
