Former Lyon and Sunderland defender John Mensah says Stephen Appiah is the reason why the Black Stars is now attractive.
Mensah, reminded many of his undoubted talent when he played in Appiah’s farewell in Accra on Saturday.
A member of Ghana’s world cup squad in 2006 and in 2010, Mensah has acknowledged the influence of Appiah in the run up to Ghana’s historic world cup campaign in 2006 and says that was the moment that turned the light of the footballing world to Ghana.
“Appiah deserves this and more. He has done a lot for this country and this is the least we can do for him.
“Now the Black Stars is very attractive but we all know that he was an influential figure in qualifying us for the world cup and since then you know how things have become.
“We can only wish him well in his next chapter of his life.â€
