John Pantsil wants Essien at World Cup

Ghana defender John Pantsil is hopeful compatriot Michael Essien will be fit for World Cup finals but says the midfielder must not risk his long term future just to play in South Africa.

Essien has been out of action since injuring his knee at this year Africa Cup of Nations in Angola but has been included in Ghana's initial 30-man squad.

Fulham defender Paintsil says Ghana ‘needs’ Micheal Essien but backs the player to make the right decisions for his career.

“It is our hope (that Essien will be fit) that is shared by many other members of the squad.

“We are all waiting for the good news concerning Michael," said Pantsil.

“He is a player we cant leave behind, our engine and we need him so much”. If he is not fit to play, I think his future is much more important than now. If his knee is not well to play, then I don’t think he should go in.

''If he feels he is alright, then I think he himself knows what is good for him and the club that is paying him. I believe Michael always comes with the good decisions. He is a wise guy and we trust he will never turn his back on Ghana."
