Ghana striker Jordan Ayew was a thorn in the flesh of Manchester United in their 1-1 pulsating stalemate in the English Premier League at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Black Stars forward who displayed a man of the match performance as a late challenge on him by Wayne Rooney resulted in the Swans equalizer.

Swansea were the better side for much of the first half, enjoying the majority of possession as a sluggish United had to rely on David de Gea to make smart saves from Fernando Llorente and Jordan Ayew.

Rooney scored from the spot a few minutes before the break but the visitors could not restored parity before the break.

Jesse Lingard was fortunate to have been shown only a yellow card when he recklessly tackled Ayew with a high footing by the 44th minute mark.

After the break, Swansea coach brought on Leroy Fer and Jefferson Montero for Sing-Yeung Ki and Leon Britton respectively but Montero could only last seven minutes.

He was replaced with Martin Olsson while Jose Mourinho brought on Matteo Darmian for injured Eric Bailly.

On 74th minute, Swansea had a quick counter-attack and, Ayew set up Gylfi Sigurdsson but the Iceland international blasted his effort beyond the target to the disappointment of the travelling supporters.

Three minutes later, Ayew won a free-kick on the edge of United’s box after Rooney barged into him and, this time, Sigurdsson made amends. The Swansea captain superbly curled his effort into the net as goalkeeper as goalkeeper De Gea stood standstill.

Mourinho brought on Henrikh Mkhitaryan for Rooney as United pushed men forward for the match-winner but Swansea held on to salvage a point.

United are fifth on the log tied on 65 points with Manchester City while Swansea are 18th with 32 points, two points below safety.
