Video: Watch Jordan Ayew scores Marseille winner against Lille

Published on: 25 November 2012

By Ameenu Shardow

Jordan Ayew’s strike handed Olympique Marseille a priceless 1-0 win against Lille on Sunday.

The Ghana striker’s goal in the 46th minute emerged the winner and sees Marseille rise to joint top in French Ligue 1.

The 21-year-old has now scored four times in the French top flight and is making a decision to drop him for the 2012 Nations Cup increasingly difficult for coach Akwasi Appiah.

Ayew has however so far failed to replicate his fine club form at international level.

Marseille are now level on points with PSG at the summit of the Championaire with 14 matches played.

I AGREE. AA DONT KNOW WAT HE IS DOING AND DAT IS WHY HE BROUGHT IN MAX KONADU. THAT WONT BE ENUFF. LIKE I KEEP SAYING. IF HE WANTS TO WIN THE AFCON TROPHY, HE SHOULD TAKE KOTOKO COACH DRAMANI WITH HIM AND HAVE DESAILLY ON SPEED DIAL. SECONDLY, ADOMAH IS A WINGER. CAN URIAH PLAY ON THE WING? JORDAN IS STILL NOT RIPE. HAVE U FORGOTTEN SO SOON.? HE WENT TO AFCON 2012 AND WHAT DID HE DO? DONT TELL ME JORDAN HAS IMROVED THAT MUSH FROM AFCON 2012? THE GUY IS SHOWING GLIMPSES OF WHAT HE WILL DO IN THE FIUTURE.DONT RUSH HIM. ALLOW HIM TO DEVELOP. AFTERALL, WE HAVE WCUP QUALIFIERS AND THE BRAIL WC TO CONCENTRATE ON. IT HASNT EVEN BEEN A FULL YEAR FROM AFCON 2012, SO DONT KID YOURSELF. WAT DO U MEAN "under milo inkoom,agyemang- badu, vorsah, dede ayew, kwadwo asamoah n jonatnan mensah all improved their game.even our top striker gyan, milo brought the best out of him we saw it at afcon 2010 n the copa mundial 2010 in southafrica." ALL THESE PLAYERS U HAVE MENTIONED WERE PRODUCTS OF SILAS TETTEH. GYAN WAS ONLY THE SENIOR PLAYER IN THAT SQUAD AND DATS WHY HE WAS USED AS A STRIKER. GYAN WAS ALWAYS A WINGER. ITS NOT ABOUT WINS AND 1 GOALPROJECT. ITS ABOUT TROPHIES. WAT TROPHY DID MILO WIN FOR GH? TWEAAA. AFTER HE LEFT GH, WAT HAS HE BEEN ABLE TO ACHIEVE? DONT EVEN MENTION THAT FOOLS NAME HERE, U HEAR ME....AA DOESNT HAVE TO DO ANYTHING TO BRING OUT THE BEST IN ANYONE. THE RESPONSIBILITY LIES WITH THE PLAYER. IF YOU ARE PRODUCING CONSISTENTLY IN A REPUTABLE, CHALLENGING LEAGUE, U WILL BE CALLED TO THE NATIONAL TEAM. PURE AND SIMPLE. AA NEVER COACHED A CLUB IN GH, BUT WAS AWARDED THE GBSTAR JOB. ENGLND, SPAIN, ARGENTINA, GERMANY WILL NEVER DO THIS...

gh fuo think big,as for this one i have to contradict u. jordan is a very good player who is being not take care of by AA. for me it seems AA dont kno wat he is doing.how can u can adomah from bristol city n leave out jordan? instead of going for adomah i will rather go for uriah sante of etolie sportive du sahel. GH FUO THINK BIG u always say jordan hasnt mautred yet.this is the problems with us africans always looking down on youngsters like jordan. i bet u guys if milovan rajevac was in the helm of affairs he would have brought the best out of jordan ayew n i can bet my whole monthly salry on that. under milo inkoom,agyemang- badu, vorsah, dede ayew, kwadwo asamoah n jonatnan mensah all improved their game.even our top striker gyan, milo brought the best out of him we saw it at afcon 2010 n the copa mundial 2010 in southafrica.how i miss this coach. GH FUO THINK BIGG,akwesi appiah has not done anything to bring the best out of jordan.many soccer forumites here knows that i normally dont criticize coaches like real sabacious always does. but i have studied that our games under AA is systemless.u see absolutely nothing.no game plan as well as tactical work.

very good assesment. becacuse waris cannot play upfront on his own especially against big african defenders, and thus needs somebody like RBY or jordan to play alongside in order to thrive and casue havoc as a pair. For this reason and including experience Gyan has to start as the striker for AFCON, however AA should not be held bent on maintaining this throughout the tournement and should be ope minded about change hence two strikers etc...

omdzzz i have been saying this from the begginning of the season. why AA won't you try this . We would see the best of k asamoah from left wing back, it solves the left back issue. Inkoom not the strongest defensively but has a bundle of enrgy he or opare can play right wing back. we have several world class centre backs so we play three of them. hence we are solid. Then Andre Ayew can perform the support striker role he craves or even jordan. this role is played by Giovinco at juventus. Gyan plays upfront. the we have annan holding and two box to box centre mids im telling you no one can beat us at afcon with this efficent formation may not be the prettiest but it works ask chelsea and all the teams in ITALY if they like playing Juventus.

crap reprtage!tell Ghanaians the matches he did failed to perform?the fact is Ghanaians expect too much from this young chap.i watched the match lastnite and he was handful for lille defenders,he was the lone ranger upfront.he scored a goal which to me was a perfect goal in the first half but was rule offside. The fact is Akwasi Appiah has no clue f what he's doing and if he didnt change his way and listen to Ghanaians. He will bring shame to hs fami´ly and the entire Ghanaians.Warris is doing his best but his best doesn't merit a place in the stars ahead of jordan, gyan, abeyie and boakye yiadom.these are the best attackers in the country now!!!!!!!!.

The srikers Ghana have right now we should start playing 3-3-3 formation and stop playing defensive football.Quincy is still the best wing Ghana have right now or you can use him as a supper sub.
  • Thegreatest says:
    November 26, 2012 05:32 am
You are right for the first part. The lone striker formation is a thing of the past. This is the reason why Ghana has not been scoring goals as needed. Scoring a lone goal and conceeding a goal or two does not win a cup. Flowing football where entire team runs forward to attack and falls back to defend if ball is lost. Thus why we need althletic and fast players and not aged players. Lone striker formation makes Gyan ineffective, hence his inability to score needed goals for Ghana these needs. He needs help at the front.

Jordan ayew is an improved striker now n in top form. If Ghana want de best in him then our coach must learn how to use him at right positions. He is a player to watch at de AFCON.
  • KWAME PITO says:
    November 26, 2012 04:18 am
that doesnt matter. The caliber of these striker is they are good getting into good spaces in defence to receive passes upfront and they will score. This is why I was saying Appiah had to play both RBY and Warris at the same time for 90 minutes in the game against capeverde instead of playing each one of them separate as a lone striker. It looks like A.A is bent on finding another lone striker in the abscence of Gyan instead of working out any new formation.

dont call him for afcon. he had a great chance AT AFCON 2012, BUT HE WASNT MATURED. INFACT, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME JORDAN HAS CORED AGAINST AN EQUALLY FORMIDABLE CLUB IN HIS CAREER. THIS NEED TO BE ENCOURAGED. HE NEEDS TO BE CONSISTENT AS A STRIKER. WE STILL HAVE WC AND THE QUALIFIERS TO PREPARE FOR. EXCLUDING HIM WILL GET HIM TO BE SERIOUS AS A STRIKER. THE SAME WITH WARRIS AS WELL. HE JUST SHINES IN A VERY MEDIOCRE LEAGUE OVER THERE IN SWEDEN. HAVE U REALIZED THAT ALL THE SWEDISH TEAMS HAVE BEEN BOUNCED FROM THE CHAMPS AND EUROPA LEAGUE TOURNAMNTS? FOR NOW, AAA SHOULD CONCENTRATE ON AFFUM, CLOTTEY, B YIADOM N GYAN AS OUR STRIKERS. DEDE AND KWADWO ASAMOAH SHOULD BE INTERCHANGED AS ATTACKING MIDFIELDERS.

How many games has he been allowed to start? For example he scored a brace against Swaziland. Can you remember the last time gyan scored for us? i;m not paid by anyone whastoever I just think we're stronger with Jordan in the team. Also because the Ayew brothers play together week-in week-out in France.

Nii you are rite but i would preffer gyan cos of speed and experiance.the africancup is a toatally different ball game.we should use him as a sub.but with all these strikers we have rite now it will be very tough for the coach.u cant drop gyan cos he is scoring and you cant drop richmond cos he is also scoring.and look at warris he is unstopable.but when it comes to the acon its a toataly different game.experiance really counts,

Here is the assesment. Our strikers are not all the same. Gyan is our only striker who can allow Ghana to play our traditional loan striker formation because he is strongest and can hold onto the ball upfront. He can fend off defenders for long enough to wait for support from the midfield. He and drogba are the only African strikers I have seen that are capable of this role. But Jordan, Warris and RBY cannot do that at the moment. These 3 strikers are just good at finding spaces in defence, outwitting defenders and running away from them to score a sharp goal, their play style is not combative but just pure technique and skill like some european strikers. thats why they find it difficult to play alone upfront. Just look at Warris in the capeverde game totally lost upfront by himself. Infact Jordan scored a goal today which was wrongfully ruled offside, he just pulled away from the defender before a cross came in and made a quick onetime placed shot...goal. What A.A should do is play gyan as the traditional lone man but in cases where Gyan needs to be subbed or benched then reverse Ghana formation to 2 strikers upfront. simple coaching knowledge.

that's an interesting assessment but you do know however that all the 3 strikers(Waris, Jordan AND Boakye) all play in a Central forward role for their clubs right?
  • A concerned citizen says:
    November 26, 2012 01:51 am
These three strikers should be selected, Asamoah Gyan, Currently the best lone striker coupled with experience in the B/S and also the captain, RYB is a schemer cum striker, a good schemer and a goal scorer too. Abdul Majeed Warris, should be included due to current club form or merit. A current goal king should be encouraged to bring club form to the national level. Andre Ayew has a bright future for Ghana soccer and should be monitored to be included in the near future.
