Coach Jose Mourinho has suggested Chelsea are still in pursuit of Ghana international left-back Baba Rahman who plays for German side Augsburg.

The 21-year-old is set to be Filipe Luis’ replacement at the English Premier League champions but his club have not accepted the 25 million Euros offer tabled by the Blues.

Mourinho was in typically enigmatic spirits when quizzed about the Blues' interest in Augsburg left-back Abdul Baba Rahman during a pre-match press conference on Friday.

The manager confirmed that the Blues are still trying to sign a defender ‘from Augsburg’ but when pressed about the prospect of Baba moving to west London, Mourinho gave a diversionary answer.

When asked about the arrival of a new left-back, he said: “I don't know. But we try. We don't have, we have only one. We are trying.

And when pressed over whether the new signing could be Baba Rahman, he replied: “He is an Augsburg player. I don't speak.”

Baba Rahman stands out as a more necessary measure than Stones following Filipe Luis' return to Atletico Madrid, although it's unclear as to whether he would rank as first choice should he arrive.

Rahman will earn just £27,000 a week if he signs the proposed five-year deal in west London, a figure that pales in comparison to some of the salaries of his potential Chelsea team-mates.

Baba Rahman created four assists in 31 Bundesliga appearances last season as Augsburg made a surprising climb to fifth place, with their full-back star earning rave reviews in the process.

Cesar Azpilicueta is Mourinho's top left-back at present, and despite being naturally right-footed, the Spaniard has coped tremendously in his transition to the other side of the back four.
