Jurgen Klopp issues concerning injury update on Diogo Jota

Published on: 16 October 2022

Jurgen Klopp has ruled Diogo Jota out of Liverpool's next game against West Ham after the forward was stretchered off in stoppage time during their 1-0 win over Manchester City.

Jota put in a tireless display for Liverpool and had chances to score as they dug in deep to beat City at Anfield, but was forced off late on with an injury.

Minutes after being booked with Liverpool seeing out the result, the Portuguese forward seemed to overstretch and immediately went down clutching his leg, before being stretchered off the field and replaced by Kostas Tsimikas.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Klopp admitted he wouldn't make Liverpool's midweek clash: "We miss the next one with Diogo. He felt real pain in that moment but I have no idea how bad it is."

Clearly concerned by the manner in which Jota's game ended, he added: "If Diogo stays down it is not good."

Liverpool next take to the field on Wednesday evening when they welcome West Ham to Anfield. But while Jota is now set to miss out through injury, Klopp will also have to watch the game from afar.

The German was sent off against City for his protests on the touchline, admitting that he got 'carried away' in the moment, following a challenge on Mohamed Salah from Bernardo Silva.
