Juventus coach bemoans lapse in concentration after narrow win over Carpi

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri has bemoaned his side’s lapse in concentration after almost throwing away win against Carpi.

Mario Mandzukic netted his first brace for the club and Paul Pogba added a third to earn a win despite conceding twice.

“It was important to win and go to second place, but we almost faltered with five minutes to go,” Allegri told Mediaset.

Marco Borriello opened the score for the hosts before Leonardo Bonucci turned into his own net in the dying minutes.

“We have to improve, play the way we have been practicing and know when the opponents are in trouble to capitalise.”

The Bianconeri start the new year with a visit from Hellas Verona before travelling to face Sampdoria four days later.

“We did well having conceded, we have to build on this because we are late in joining the title race,” he concluded.

Juventus will remain in second place if both Fiorentina and Napoli fail to win their Serie A fixtures this weekend.
