Juventus defender set to miss out key fixtures

After picking up a calf injury in his side’s 2-0 win over Frosinone at the weekend, Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini could miss crucial fixtures against both Napoli and Bayern Munich.

The Italian was forced off after taking a knock against the Canarini and is now likely to be kept on the sidelines for the next few weeks, serving as a huge blow to the Bianconeri.

According to reports from Corriere dello Sport, Chiellini is certain to miss Juventus’ upcoming Serie A clash against Napoli and quite possibly the Champions League round of 16 first leg against German giants Bayern, on February 23.

As one of the leading figures in Juventus’ defence, Chiellini’s injury has caused a major headache for coach Massimiliano Allegri, who may now switch to a four at the back-formation over the next few weeks in order to compensate for the loss of his key man.

Sami Khedira and Mario Mandzukic are reported to be nearing a return for Saturday evening’s fixture against the Partenopei, though neither are certainties for the game.
