Juventus' Giorgio Chiellini on course to recover in time for Real Madrid clash

The FC crew detail what Juventus need to do if they are to have a chance against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinals.

The thigh injury Giorgio Chiellini picked up in Juventus' goalless draw with SPAL at the weekend is not thought to be serious enough for him to miss the Champions League clash with Real Madrid next month.

Chiellini was sent back to Turin for tests after reporting for international duty with Italy on Monday and these have confirmed the injury is not serious, and it is hoped it will have cleared within a week.

"Giorgio Chiellini underwent a medical check-up on Tuesday after reporting a niggling injury to the flexor muscles in his right thigh, which caused him to withdraw from Italy's international friendlies yesterday," read a statement issued by the Serie A club.

Giorgio Chiellini joined Juventus back in 2005 and has made 467 appearances for the club.

"The tests revealed that Chiellini's injury, while not serious, will require daily monitoring. The defender has started undergoing physiotherapy and his condition will be re-evaluated next week."

Juve host Real in a repeat of last season's Champions League final on April 3, with the return leg in Madrid on April 11.

While Chiellini is expected to be fit for that tie, Alex Sandro may miss out after tearing his thigh muscle while on international duty with Brazil in Moscow. The wide player has already returned to Turin where he too is currently receiving treatment.

Juan Cuadrado and Federico Bernardeschi are also expected still to be sidelined for the quarterfinal clash.
