Kenya government wants their FA to emulate Ghana

The Kenyan government has asked the football federation his country to emulate the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to bring success to the game in their country.

Sports minister Paul Otuoma called for radical change in the running of football in the country that will bring them success like the Black Stars have done for Ghana.

In a brutally candid assessment, Otuoma rounded off Football Kenya Limited officials over inept management of the game in the country saying that time was ripe for change in the way they conduct their business.

“Something is wrong and we must be bold enough to face it,” said Otuoma on Tuesday during a luncheon he hosted for the Kenya Under-20 football team and Harambee Stars.

"Kenyans are disappointed and we must take this chance to make this right once and for all."

He however added that hope was not lost giving the example of Ghana, “Ghana invested in the U20 and you saw the fruits at the World Cup.

"What we need is a clear structure under which we can then run sports."

The government, he added was ready to work with Fifa to find a long lasting solution for the game, “We want to progress, we want to work together with Fifa, we will involve all stakeholders but we agree that football cannot be run the way its being run.”

The minister was speaking during a luncheon for the national U20 team following their third place finish in the East and Central Championships in Eritrea.

The news is a shot in the arm for beleaguered GFA president Kwasi Nyantakyi who has been under siege from different angles over the past three weeks.
