Kevin De Bruyne insists Manchester City 'journey' to title as good as winning

The FC crew examine the statistics behind Man City's title-winning season and debate if it's been the most dominant in English top-flight history.

Manchester City's journey to the Premier League title was just as enjoyable as the end result, according to midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.

The Belgium international, who has been with the club for three years, secured his first winners' medal as City claimed the title with five games remaining.

De Bruyne, 26, is delighted with the success but insists he has enjoyed playing his part in a season which has seen City win plenty of praise for their entertaining and attacking style.

"I've enjoyed the whole season, sometimes the journey is better than the end," De Bruyne told reporters. "It's a quick moment of enjoyment, when you look back it's been a great season.

"The team's been great, everybody has done their part, then you have to feel happy I think.

"It's not always the end result -- OK it's the most important thing -- but in the end you live 250 days to enjoy an hour, maybe a few days. OK it fills you with happiness, but we still need to enjoy the whole journey, I guess."

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City were confirmed Premier League champions over the weekend.

City won the title on Sunday after second-placed Manchester United were surprisingly beaten at home by bottom-of-the-table West Brom.

Pep Guardiola's side had won 24 hours earlier at Tottenham Hotspur and De Bruyne isn't concerned about how the title was eventually secured.

"I don't care, I just want to win the title," he said. "It doesn't matter what way, obviously it maybe feels different when you're on the pitch but in the end nobody will care about that. You just want to win the league."

The title success came at the end of a tough week when City were dumped out of the Champions League by Liverpool and blew a two-goal lead at home to United wrecking their Manchester derby title party.

But Player of the Year nominee De Bruyne said they should forget about their disappointment and focus on their incredible season.

"If you start the season and everyone says: 'You are going to win the League Cup, win the title, be in the quarterfinals of the Champions League,' then it's been a great season," he added.

"Obviously you want to try to win everything and it's very difficult, everybody wants to do the same. I think this week, with three losses, it doesn't define the season.

"I think the whole season shows that until now we have been the best team in the league and the Champions League or a cup is a different prospect."
