Maxwell Konadu has been put in temporary charge of the Black Stars team but the Ghana FA intends to finalize the appointment of a new coach before Ghana faces Guinea in next month’s 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The assistant coach takes interim charge of the team following the dismissal of Kwesi Appiah despite claims by the Ghana FA, the decision to part ways with the 54-year-old was mutual.

Konadu, the former coach of Asante Kotoko served as assistant to Kwesi Appiah during his over two-year reign at the helm of the Black Stars.

There are reports his role as the interim head coach could span into next month’s double header 2015 AFCON qualifier against Guinea as the GFA continue with its search for a substantive coach of the side.

But the association says even though Konadu has been handed interim charge of the team, they expect to make a substantive appointment before the game against Guinea.

“Our intention is to appoint a coach before the games against Guinea,” Ghana FA spokesman Ibrahim Sannie Daara told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“But work remain ongoing at the Black Stars and therefore Maxwell Konadu has been put in temporary charge of the team.

“We cannot tentatively tell that Maxwell Konadu will be in charge for the games against Guinea, it will depend on the process in appointing the new coach.

“But then our intention is to get a coach in place before the Guinea games.”
