Kotoko and Edubiase confirm African participation

Published on: 01 December 2012

Asante Kotoko and New Edubiase have confirmed their participation in next season’s African club competitions.

The Ghanaian clubs confirmation is in response to an ultimatum issued by CAF to have all qualified teams for their respective competitions affirm their participation by November 30.

Kotoko will be making a return to the CAF Champions League following their domestic league success last term while New Edubiase will be making their debut appearance in Africa in the Confederations Cup.

Both clubs sent their confirmation to the continental body through the Ghana FA way ahead of the the deadline.

Ghanaian teams in the recent past have failed to compete in Africa where qualified citing financial challenges.

This has led to the reduction of the allocated competing slots for Ghanaian teams from four (two each in Champions League and Confederations Cup) to two.

Kotoko and Edubiase’s confirmation and hopefully an improved performance on the back of an impressive debut season in Africa by Berekum Chelsea will help Ghana’s course in redeeming its lost slots.

The 2013 CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup is expected to commence in February.
