Chairman of Asante Kotokoââ¬â¢s committee in-charge of their Africa campaign Alhaji Abu Lamine has apologized to Ghanaians and their fans for their ignominious elimination from the CAF Champions League.
The two-time African champions were kicked out by minnows Barrack Young Controllers of Liberia on the away goals rule.
Kotoko were beaten 1-0 at the 10,000-seater Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia on Sunday to leave the tie at 2-2 but the Liberian champions advanced.
ââ¬ÅI first must apologise to Ghanaians especially to our supporters,â⬠Alhaji Lamine said on Asempa FM
ââ¬ÅThe game was a good one we had a our chances and unfortunately we couldnââ¬â¢t convert them and at this level you are likely to pay for them.
ââ¬ÅI must admit the goal we allowed in was a soft goal too.ââ¬
This is the second failed attempt by Kotoko in two years to reach the league stage of the prestigious Africa club competition.
In 2013, the club were eliminated by JSM Bejaia of Algeria following a 1-1 draw in Kumasi when the first leg had ended 0-0 in Algeria.
The last time Kotoko played in the league stage of the CAF Champions League was in 2006 but the team could not reach the last four of the competition.
