Kotoko assistant coach hails fighting spirit

Kotoko assistant coach Sarfo Castro has lauded their performance in last Sunday's come-from-behind 3-1 win at Wassaman United.

The coach says the players learnt their lessons well from the previous match against New Edubiase to chalk that remarkable triumph at Tarkwa.

Sarfo Castro, who was partnered on the bench by Reserve Team coach Henry Wellington, told Kotoko Express that the Porcupines could not have repeated their mistakes against Edubiase the previous week.

"In our last game, we lost concentration. Edubiase took us by surprise. Though we recovered late to draw 1-1, we were very fortunate to pick a point from that match. Going to Tarkwa in the face of the experience in Kumasi, the only thing we could do was to learn our lessons which we did to record a good win" he said.

"If you noticed, there was some gap between the defence and midfield in the other game. This time around that defect was absent.''

Wassaman scored first but Kotoko replied with two goals before half time.

Coach Sarfo Castro said he was pleased with the manner in which Kotoko's first two goals were scored.

"In modern football, not many clubs would allow you to penetrate their midfield. They pack the middle. What we did was to open-up from the wings and that was helpful.

"It got us the goals. The players did well in that area."

Castro will revert to his role as an assistant coach as head coach Maxwell Konadu returns to the bench to face Hearts of Oak after serving a two-match touchline ban.
