Asante Kotoko board member Kwaku Amponsah (Chairman K5) has slammed the club’s official newspaper for reporting on the imminent dissolution of the board.

The Kotoko Express reported on Friday the board was to converge at the Manhyia Palace where they would be dissolved by club owner Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The Asantehene was expected to use the same occasion to officially announce ex Ghana defender Samuel Osei Kuffour as the new President of the club.

This ceremony however did not take place – leading to a huge uncertainty on what is holding up the official appointment of Kuffour who had confirmed his appointment to the media.

Kwaku Amponsah (Chairman K5) who is the supporters’ representative on the board has taken the official mouthpiece of the club to the cleaners over their publication which gives credence to other reports of the imminent dissolution of the club’s board.

“I was amazed to find a publication in the Kotoko Express that the board was to converge at the Manhyia Palace on Friday where it will be dissolved when in fact the board has not been served with such an invitation,” he told Kumasi-based Nhyira FM.

“And this a report coming from a paper which is the official mouthpiece of the club.

“I don’t know the source of this story but it tells you clearly things are not right at this club.

“Reporters at the newspaper will have some explaining to do to the board because we cannot have this.”

The delayed formal confirmation of Samuel Osei Kuffour as the new administrative head of Asante Kotoko leaves the club in further uncertainty over its future.

The existing board however in its meeting on Friday established a five-member recruitment committee to oversee the transfer of players this off-season.

The committee to be headed by coach David Duncan has Opoku Nti, Kwaku Amponsah (Chairman K5) and Nana Yaw Owusu as members with George Kennedy being the secretary to the committee.
