Asante Kotoko winger Richard Mpong believes they have the upper hand against regional rivals AshantiGold in Sunday’s MTN Ghana FA Cup quarterfinal clash.

Due to a recent home venue ban, Kotoko will host the 1993 winners at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Both sides are meeting for the third time this season with Kotoko crashing the Miners 4-1 in a league match played at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Mpong claims the Porcupine Warriors are still favourites to advance to the last four of the competition.

“Because they came here the last time and we beat them by 4-1, they will attempt to throw everything at us, this time round, and try to also avenge that heavy defeat. This is the situation we face on Sunday,” Mpong told Kotoko Express.

“We have to go all out and must also listen to the instructions of the coach. That is what will make us win the game.”

Kotoko, who are twice losing finalists in the last four editions, are hoping to rewrite the scrolls this year as their eyes are fixed on the double.

Mpong does not think the visitors can deny them progress to the semi-finals.

“No, they are not a threat to our chances of winning the FA Cup for Asante Kotoko.  But, we will have to work hard on Sunday and do our possible best to make sure that they don’t. They won’t come easy, that is for sure, but we still can and should beat them.”
