Kotoko get no cash from Inkoom sale

It has emerged that Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko will have no share of the proceeds accrued from the sale of defender Samuel Inkoom.

The 21-year-old moved from Swiss side FC Basel in January in a reported deal worth $7m to Ukrainian club Dnipro Dnipropetrovesk.

A quota of 10% from the total sale of the defender (as an onward transfer) is reportedly ought to be paid to the Ghanaian giants as part of the initial deal that took him to Basel as a professional.

It has however emerged that Kotoko is not entitled to even a dime of a dollar as onward transfer except for the mandatory solidarity which is paid to the former clubs of a player who is under 23-years-old in case of a transfer.

"Kotoko is not entitled to any amount as onward transfer in the deal of Samuel Inkoom to Dnipro Dnipropetrovesk," Sporting Director of FC Basel George Heitz told a local radio station.

"However, it (Kotoko) will get  some money as solidarity from the deal," he added.

To throw more light on how the solidarity package is administered, Ghana FA spokesman Randy Abbey said: "5% of the total transfer of a player under 23-years is paid as solidarity by the acquiring club of the said player.

"Now 5% of that amount paid is given to the player's former clubs between when he was 12-15years whereas clubs he joined from when he was 16-years-old would receive 10% of the amount until when he is 23-years."

"It means in relation to Kotoko where he played two seasons after he turned 16, Kotoko is entitled to 20%. It also means even FC Basel is entitled to a portion of the solidarity package since the player is still Under 23-years."
