Kotoko preserve lead with Chelsea draw

Leaders Asante Kotoko extended their clean sheet in the second half of the Ghana top-flight after drawing 0-0 at Berekum Chelsea on Wednesday to preserve their nine point advantage. Â

The 21-time champions have not conceded a goal in five matches.

It was a game that was never short of entertainment and tension as Kotoko coach Maxwell Konadu was ordered out of the Kotoko dugout after having an exchange with a match official.

Defending champions Chelsea hugely dominated play but were unable to find the back.

Gladson Awako lightened up the stadium with breathtaking skills and artistry in midfield.

Daniel Nii Adjei and Bernard Akuffo attempted to make their influence felt in midfield but diminutive Solomon Asante and the all-running Eric Agyemang dictated the pace of the game.

Arsenal-target Baba Abdul Rahman was in fine shape at left-back.

The Ghana U20 star wish this was a platform for the North London side to assess his quality as he distinguished himself in the Kotoko set-up.

Emmanuel Clottey came close to scoring the opener for Chelsea on 16th minute but the former Legia Warsaw trialist blazed over the crossbar from just outside of the box.

Rahman carved the Chelsea back-line open after hitting the by-line with a lightening pace before shooting across the face of goal.

Kotoko striker Ben Acheampong was booked for diving inside the box on the half hour mark.

Chelsea had Eric Agyemang to thank for intercepting a goal-bound drive from Acheampong.

Michael Anaba outpaced three players but slipped and crumbled inside the box.

Kotoko lived dangerous moments in the opening five minutes as Gabonese import Eduard Jembaye and Awudu Moro all coming close.

Chelsea holding midfielder Jackson Owusu tested the strength of the crossbar with a ferocious free-kick from 25 yards but Awako failed to connect from close range.

Awako soared his reputation in the game by making two Kotoko defenders useless before firing just wide.

With less than 15 minutes left, Kotoko's impact was diminished as Chelsea staged a total dominance in all departments.

David Ofei replaced Michael Anaba but was unable to make any impact.
