Kotoko have questioned the authority of the Executive Committee (Exco) of the Ghana FA in temporarily banning them from using their home venue in league matches.

The Porcupine Warriors were slapped with the indefinite ban on Wednesday following a meeting of the Exco over recent violence the club's supporters meted out to match officials and their opponents Medeama.

Irate supporters of Kotoko launched violent attacks on the match officials after their 8 May match in Kumasi before attacking Medeama players in their bus.

Referee Silas Okine and his two assistants Mumuni Issaka and Richard Kotey had to be whisked away by security personnel after various missiles were hurled at them.

The agitated fans threw stones and other missiles which smashed the windscreen of the Medeama bus and hit some of the players.

Despite the clear violent acts of their supporter Kotoko are questioning the authority of the Exco in taking the decision to ban their from their home venue.

"There are a whole lot of lapses in the release that came from the FA," Kotoko spokesperson Dr Ernest Opoku told Joy FM.

"The decision should have come from the disciplinary committee or a special committee, unless of course the Executive Committee which is a statutory body of the FA is the special committee.

"And even in doing so, before you can suspend or ban a club, you will have to do a hearing first. The Executive Committee can close down the Baba Yara Stadium but they can't ban Kotoko that is what the law states."

Kotoko, who are currently the league leaders, are tied on 46 points with Berekum Chelsea and Medeama.

Their chances of retaining the title will be damaged by the decision to ban them from playing at home.
