Asante Kotoko claim they were forced to sign Ahmed Toure before holding his medical to beat off competition.

The 27-year-old sealed his return to the Ghanaian giants on Monday after inking a three-year deal.

The Ivorian striker who was in advanced talks to join Hearts of Oak however signed the contract without undergoing a medical.

This has fueled fears Kotoko is at risk as they will be at a loss if the player fails his medical.

But the club’s spokesman Ali Maradona explains Kotoko had to quickly sign Toure to beat competition and adds that an agreement was reached to protect the club should the player fail the medical.

“We got wind that some people wanted to come and steal the player from Kumasi and therefore we had to move quickly,” he told Metro FM.

“And we know the supporters will not forgive us once we let the player leave without tying him down to a contract.

“We have not given him any money yet. We came to an agreement for him to sign and then once he passes the medical, then he gets his cash.”

Toure returned to Kotoko two seasons after leaving acrimoniously after he had been slapped with an indefinite ban for overstaying a compassionate leave.

He will earn a cumulative GHS 80,000 over the three-year period at the Kumasi-based club.
