Kotoko to drag NGO to court over unpaid fee

Asante Kotoko want to sue Christian Non-Governmental Organization Kome to My Aid International for failing to pay an outstanding bill of US$ 15730.

The club reached an agreement with the NGO to play a charity match with perennial rivals Hearts of Oak last year for a noble cause.

The first leg was played in Kumasi on September 25 and the return leg was played on October 1 which Kotoko won 3-1 in Accra.

Kome to My Aid agreed to pay the Kumasi-based side a total amount of US$ 46,348 before September 22 last year.

Kotoko filed a formal complaint at the Commercial Crime Unit of the Ghana Police in Accra on November 30 2011 after an ECOBANK cheque for 33,000 Ghana cedis (US$ 18539) was returned.

It had to pay 5,000 Ghana cedis after being pressured by the Kotoko.

The NGO later met the club's legal team where they made two proposals on offsetting the outstanding 28,000 Ghana cedis (US$ 15730).

They promised to pay 8,000 Ghana cedis by the end of December 2011 and spreading the remaining 20,000 Ghana cedis over two months-January and February 2012.

The second was to pay the US$ 15730 on condition that Kotoko agreed to play another friendly but the Kotoko legal team rejected that and demand a 20,000 Ghana cedis payment by the end of December 2011 and the remainder of 8,000 Ghana cedis by the end of January 2012 with interest from September 2011.
