Asante Kotoko will now play Greek club Veria FC to mark their 80th anniversary on October 11, organizers have announced.

The dethroned Ghana Premier League champions were originally billed to play Romanian club Petrolul in September.

A press conference with officials from both Kotoko and Petrolul was even held to affirm the international club friendly.

But the tough competitive schedule of Petrolul is proving difficult to have the team fly down to Kumasi for the game.

Organizers, Pacific Football Ghana have now confirmed Greek club Veria FC as a replacement.

“VERIA FC – Greece Super League club has replaced Petrolul Ploesti of Romania in the Kotoko 80th anniversary cup match,” a press statement from the organizers read.

“This is due to a fixture clash, which makes it impossible for Petrolul to honour the match on the fixed date Sunday, 11th October 2015.

“An official press conference will be arranged soon to introduce VERIA FC and roll out a detailed programme for the match.”
