Kumasi buzzing ahead of Kotoko-Hearts clash

Published on: 15 April 2012

The Ashanti Regional capital is well alive and filled with several activities ahead of the big kickoff between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.

Almost all radio programmes in Kumasi including non-sports related reserve a minute or two to talk about this game.

The wave of media and supporters entourage from all parts of the country that has engulfed the city just for this game seems unprecedented not to talk of the several supporter branded private and commercial vehicles blaring horns in the principal streets.

Even pastors delivering sermons at Sunday's service can't help but make mention of the game, advising all attendees to be civil and conform with all security procedures.

Long queues have already begun forming at the Baba Yara Stadium for tickets in the game that will certainly enjoy massive patronage.

For hawkers in around the Baba Yara Stadium, bussiness couldn't have come at a better time as they actively trade of their wares.

Kotoko though with a healthy 10-point lead at the top with just six matches to go are determined to beat their arch rivals on unfavourable grounds despite it being a home fixture.

Hearts on the other hand are just coming out of a woeful run in the opening games of the second round leading to the dismissal of Serbian Nebojsa Vucicevic and the incoming of C.K Akunnor.

Kotoko during this period have flourished - they have not lost a league game since December 18, 2011 but are strangely the more jitterier side going into this tie.

This is because of the well known adage of the Phobians being at their devastating best against Kotoko when they are not in form.

Statistically, technically a logical analysis should hand the Fabulous lads a comfortable lead against Hearts but you do that at your peril.

Hopefully, the players will step up to the plate to dish out a deliciously entertaining brand of football expected of the two giants of Ghana soccer.
