Juventus star Kwadwo Asamoah is excited international teammate John Mensah has returned to active football.

Mensah, a centre-back, has signed for Slovakian side FC Nitra and playing in the top-flight after close to a year out.

His return could convince head coach Kwesi Appiah to include him in Ghana’s final squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals Brazil.

Asamoah, who played alongside Mensah at the 2010 finals in South Africa, says the defender’s availability is a boost for the Black Stars.

“I was very happy when I heard he has found a team and is playing again. It’s welcoming news for all of us Ghanaians especially the Black Stars,” Asamoah said.

“I want us to make a much bigger impact at the World Cup and so I want us to get the best compliments of our players and that is what I am happy about.”

Even the players are excited and this should tell anyone that this guy means a lot to our players!! His experience alone can make a huge difference in the dressing room!!! I hope he gets fits to help us at the WC!!

@ selfmade it's good news Mensah is back playing although I don't doubt his quality I worry about his fitness because he is too injury prone so no matter how good he is the likelihood of him getting injured while in camp is very high. Mensah has hardly managed to complete 90 minuted of football since 2012 and that is a big concern. He still has the brains and tactical know-how but I doubt his body can hold up. Anyways it coach Appiah's decision to make but I would be wary of taking Mensah though none of our defenders are not remotely as good as he is when healthy the advantage they have over him currently is fitness and pace which is more crucial.

@ spellBOUND.... how does a player achieved fitness?
  • selfmade says:
    March 25, 2014 01:03 am
@ spellbound... There are players who are fully fit but has no pace!! Again is not every player that has pace!! Our be squad is not made up of only pacey players!! There are some players who have the pace but contributes nothing to the game( busy for nothing) whiles there are those who are less pace and old but uses experience, incisive passes and ball distribution to control the flow a game so your ARGUMENT ALSO DOESN'T HOLD NO WATER!! Fitness can be achieve when a player plays regularly and that what john is doing!!!

21bazookers, ur analogy is a bit misleading. Has the Ghanaian ship hovered without a destination since mensah left? Gyan, muntari and Essien has captained the team since then, and they have chartered a course.....Destination Brazil. We all like mensah and his experience. Fitness and pace is the main question... A captain cannot be a captain forever... The key is to know when to move on....

@selfmade.bro what do you expect kwadwo asamoah to say? That john mensah is old and he doesnt deserve a call? Bro let me tell you most of the current blackstars players wont tell you the truth that its time for the older ones to pave way for the younger ones to grab their chances. I can bet my last euro that kwadwo knows that john mensah has past his primed due to injury but he wont admitt it publicly. Since 2012 john mensah hasnt played a game over 90 minutes. Since he moved to slovakian side Fc Nitro has he been able to play 90 minutes. In all the three games he was subtituited because he lacks the fitness. We are know john mensah is a top notch if he is fit and he has got the leading qualities but let us call a spade a spade would u guys as a coach take an injury prone player that cant even play 90 minutes to the wc at the expense of fit players? I will forever appreciate and respect john mensah for his contributions to ghana blackstars but there comes a time to call it a day and the time is now. Its about time john mensah, john pantsil and Richard olele kingson pave a way for the younger ones.

Keith I don't agree with you though you're entitled to your opinion,we all agree that these guys have reached their prime, but EXPERIENCE of these guys cannot be ignored, this is a WC,and experience in one of weapons the coach can count on.Talking about injury prone John Mensah,:then what about essien,Kelvin?

@Benito, good observance, a ship without a captain hovers around without a destination. Ghana going to world cup without john mensah is trouble. I prefer a naive striker to chook in a big game than inexperienced defender to chook in a big game. _-------------------------------- I will congratulate you guys for keeping GSN DECENT WITHOUT NO INSULT. KEEP IT UP MY BROTHERS

If people wants to use pace and fitness only, then 99 percent of our squad don't fit because most of them are BENCHWARMERS in their respective clubs but that's is not the case because though they are benchwarmers, they prepared for each match with the rest of their colleagues!! Again, people should stop deceiving themselves that player A is not fit whiles B is fit because we have had that problem before in south Africa whereby about 90 percent of our squad were not fully fit and this was revealed by AA himself!! Mere match participation cannot be used as a barometer to determine match fitness!! It can sometimes be deceiving!

Some of our so called young pacey defenders were been run rugged by bancey and co in south Africa!! People should accept the fact that there is no YOUNG MEN in our squad except Dede,Jordan,AKL and kpb and this is the absolute truth!! Accept it or leave!!! All the Ghanaian born players who claims to be 21 etc are lying!! There are all using their FOOTBALL AGES!!

Through regular playing time. For one can only train by themselves to an extent. The unpredictability of playing cannot be fully replicated in training.

John is playing regularly? Sorry, I have been unaware of that FACT!,, true that not every player I pacey, but it's hard to argue that for all positions, especially defense.

Pace is a subcategory of this conversation, and not the main course. The main issue is fitness. Like I said before, we are all fans of mensah. If he is fit, injury free, bravo, if not all I'm saying is that we a should be ready to move on.....

A player achieve fitness by playing regularly! A player can also be fit by doing his own excercises!! John MENSAH has started playing regularly in his club!! He has had three matches since he moved over there and we still have 3 months to the WC,which means without any serious injuries, he can be fully fit for the WC!! I wouldn't even talk about pace because u understand me!!
  • selfmade says:
    March 25, 2014 02:07 am
Again there is no player who is injury free!! Essien, Kevin and gyan are also injury proned but that doesn't mean that they can't be rely upon at the wc! We have been there before and injuries goes hand in hand- with football!!

Its intriguing that , all of a sudden, John has found a club. Some time l wonder where we won't to go as a nation. John even four years ago could not complete two matches on the the trot because of his nagging injury problem. Fast forward 2014, he is four years older and his injury problem has not showned any sign of improvement, besides he has been inactive for a year. What serious coach will pick such a player. Remember Sammy Kuffour 2006? Let forget about John Mensah and look at how best to get the best out of our active players who can be relied upon. Why don't we call Abedi, Yegoalla etc. They still have the brains and the experience. Personally l think John though he is good but considering his injury problems and his inactivity for a whole year, he will be a liability.

For the first time, I see comments and opinions being thrown at one another in a matured and descent way, even in disagreements. Need I say anything about how that feels???

I can see the desires of many of us to see John play for us at the WC.Its good...but is he in a position to compete with the best players in world? fitness and experience are two different things altogether.what is the relevance of experience if a player is not fit?

Thank you my bro, you just nailed it. I'm beginning to wonder if some bloggers on here have been paid to advocate John Mensah's inclusion because they have been at it for a while now. This guy hasn't played 90mins of football in 2YRS and made no attempts to find a club but when the world cup is just around the corner, he somehow all of a sudden got a club? Yes we appreciate John's contributions to the Black stars over the years but everyone has moved on and he is a liability now and will be if included in the team instead of a fit player. Anyway what's good benny, it's been a min since we spoke on here? Hope all is well with you.

Very happy about the maturity and the constructive arguements! If we the "laymen" have these arguements and suggestions, how much more those around AA - technical team and the scouts?!? I hope (believe) AA would take all these discussions and arguements into consideration when he select his squad for the WC Brazil. It is not easy at all if you consider the fact that he has "worked" with such players like John Mensah for quite a number of years now! Besides I hope he would let the players undergo "tough" medical and FITNESS TESTS before the final squad comes out! AKWESI APPIAH KNOWS WHAT IS AT STAKE, AND HE WOULD LIVE UP TO EXPECTATION, I believe. Let's give give him the benefit of doubt!

Brazil 2014 is not a platform to honour players who think they have toiled in the past for the BS....was Bra Laryea not excluded in the final list for the 2010 WC by coach Milo?...AA should be bold & strong.
