Chelsea are still sitting on the top perch of the Premier League looking down on everyone else, but the large gap that they once had, has been closed to just a few points and it looks as though the run in to the end of the season could be interesting.

Manchester City are breathing down their necks and Manchester United are chipping away at the points that could see them classed as contenders.

However, in recent weeks Chelsea have not been playing great football and the fact that they were stifled on the weekend when they faced Southampton shows that they are not going to steam roller every team this season.

With the January transfer window coming increasingly closer, there is every possibility that Chelsea could make a signing or two despite Jose Mourinho ruling any signings out, stating that no players will be coming or going.

This is Mourinho however, and he could be playing mind games with the media.

One player that they have been linked with is Kwadwo Asamoah of Juventus and he could well be their big-name January signing.

Reports suggest that they could spend £24 million on the 26 year old, who is a versatile player and could offer something to Chelsea.

The midfielder has been a great player for Juventus and he certainly possesses all the qualities that Chelsea look for in a player.

He is a hard worker and a clever, creative player who could make Chelsea tick in different ways, but his versatility will allow him to carry out many roles.

However, Mourinho has made it clear that there will be no movement and if he was to make the signing, it would be likely that another player would move the other way, who that player could be is unknown, but it could be Mohamed Salah or Andre Schurrle.

The signing of Asamoah would be a good signing for Chelsea and one that could give the squad a boost over the coming months.
