There was a new face on the Bayern Munich bench on Saturday afternoon in the form of Hamburg-born Ghanaian striker Kwasi Okyere Wriedt.

In a surprise move by returning head coach Jupp Heynckes, the 23-year-old was named in Bayern's senior match-day squad for the first time since joining the club in the summer from third-tier Osnabruck.

Although something of a curve-ball, Wriedt's inclusion in the setup was just reward for a string of fine displays for Bayern's second team.

The former Ghana Under-20 international has struck eight times in ten Regionalliga outings so far this season, building on the 12 goals he scored for Osnabruck in Germany's Third Division last term.

Wriedt didn't feature in the 5-0 win against Freiburg, but should he continue to impress, it seems certain he will soon become only the second African player in history to pull on the famous red shirt of Bayern after legendary defender Sammy Kuffour (1993-2005).
