Kwesi Appiah insists he dropped Jordan Ayew for footballing reasons

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has hailed the qualities of Jordan Ayew but says he dropped him from his squad for the Nations Cup purely for footballing reasons.

The exclusion of the 20-year-old has become a subject of massive debate in the country following his impressive displays for Olympique Marseille.

He was overlooked for the continental showpiece despite being voted Marseille Player of the month of  November.

But the Ghana boss insists he dropped him purely for footballing reasons.

“Jordan is a good player and has many years ahead of him,” Appiah said

“I don’t think it will be advisable to pinpoint reasons why I dropped him. Ghana has a pool of talents.

“There are thousands of them especially in the local league. If he’s in not in now, I have selected the players I believe can deliver for the nation.

“But it doesn't mean he will not be part of the national team. I have given many players the chance to play and I settled on these one.

The exclusion of the third son of Ghana legend Abedi Pele may not wash-away any time soon as many pundits and fans continue to discuss what might have accounted for his omission.
