LA LIGA / REAL MADRID: Cristiano Ronaldo: Spain and European top scorer on 27 goals

Published on: 05 March 2016

Cristiano Ronaldo had a great afternoon at the Santiago Bernabéu. The Portuguese put four goals past Celta to take his tally to 27 goals and claim top spot in the race to become both La Liga and Europe's top goalscorer for the season. Those stats also saw him build up a lead over Benfica's Jonas in the race for the Golden Shoe.

Ronaldo also leapfrogged Athletic Bilbao legend Zarra into second place in Spain's all-time top goalscoring charts with 253 goals. The only man ahead of him now is one Leo Messi with 300 goals.

Ronaldo's first goal of the game came in the 50th minute with a brilliant long-range effort that left Rubén Blanco very little chance in the Celta goal. Barely two minutes later, in the 58th minute, the Portuguese banged in his second from a free-kick to make it 3-0 to Los Blancos.

Minutes later, Ronaldo let rip with an almost identical free-kick, but this time, Rubén Blanco, with a little help from the crossbar, prevented him from claiming his hat-trick.

Ronaldo had to until the 64th minute to nab his third, although this time he only had to poke the ball home from an Isco pass. On 75 minutes, the Portuguese made it four when he headed past Rubén Blanco from Jesé's impressive corner kick.
